Winfield house was in a poor state when Barbara Hutton sold it to the US Government for one dollar in 1946, but by 1955 it was fit to become the ambassadorial residence. By the late 1990's, it needed extensive repairs once again. Our particular 'pigeon' was the interiors. Many were by Johnny Sieben or Sheila Lady Milbank, decorators employed by Hutton in the 1930's, these of course were restored, but there were others of lesser importance for which we were able to provide new designs.
