Just because Knole is the most atmospheric house in all England doesn't mean that it escapes the relatively mundane needs of rewiring, wider gates for fire engines, or offices for the National Trust. Naturally, we managed to provide those important necessities whist preserving the magical spirit of the place. I'm a firm believer in the idea that how any building feels is ultimately more important than how it looks.
